On ALS AwarenessTuesday, August 26, 2014
I am so sorry for automatically dismissing the idea of getting soaked on Ice Water because I am chronic urticaria on cold. I will get hives or worse, an anaphylactic shock once again. But I am in total support on promoting ALS Awareness.
So what is ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)?
It is a disease also known for the following names:
- Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
- Charcot Disease
- Lou Gehrig's Disease
It is a neurodegenerative disease with various causes and is characterized by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscular atrophy, and difficulty in speaking, swallowing, and breathing. ALS is the most common of the five motor neuron diseases.Among the signs and symptoms of the disease are: Muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body due to the degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons Losing the ability to initiate and control all voluntary movement Now what got me thinking is that, how has Stephen Hawking lived to 70s with ALS?
